BetterCampus isn't showing up

If you installed BetterCampus but don't see it on your school's learning platform pages, something is preventing the extension from loading. This guide walks through the most common causes and how to fix each one.

Check if BetterCampus is installed

BetterCampus needs to be installed from your browser's extension store before it can work.

Chrome
  1. Go to chrome://extensions

  2. Look for BetterCampus in the list

  3. If you don't see it, install it from the Chrome Web Store

Firefox
  1. Go to about:addons

  2. Click Extensions in the left sidebar

  3. Look for BetterCampus in the list

  4. If you don't see it, install it from Firefox Add-ons

Edge
  1. Go to edge://extensions

  2. Look for BetterCampus in the list

  3. If you don't see it, install it from the Chrome Web Store (Edge supports Chrome extensions)

Make sure the extension is enabled

Extensions can be turned off without you realizing it. Here's how to check in your browser:

Chrome
  1. Go to chrome://extensions

  2. Find BetterCampus in the list

  3. Make sure the toggle switch is turned on

  4. Refresh your learning platform page

Firefox
  1. Go to about:addons

  2. Click Extensions in the left sidebar

  3. Find BetterCampus and make sure it's enabled

  4. Refresh your learning platform page

Edge
  1. Go to edge://extensions

  2. Find BetterCampus in the list

  3. Make sure the toggle switch is turned on

  4. Refresh your learning platform page

Verify you're on a supported page

BetterCampus only activates on supported learning platform pages. It won't appear on other websites.

  1. Check the URL in your address bar

  2. Make sure it's your school's learning platform domain (like canvas.university.edu or yourschool.instructure.com)

  3. Navigate to your dashboard or any course page

  4. Refresh the page

If your school uses a custom Canvas address that isn't recognized, you can add a custom Canvas URL to help BetterCampus find it.

Sign into your school account

BetterCampus needs you to be logged into your school's learning platform to work. If you're on a supported page but not signed in:

  1. Look for a Log In button on the page

  2. Sign in with your school credentials

  3. Wait for the page to fully load

  4. BetterCampus should appear automatically

Check your browser

BetterCampus works on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. If you're having issues:

  • Safari: BetterCampus is not currently available for Safari.

  • Incognito or Guest mode: Extensions don't run in private browsing modes by default. Switch to a regular browser window.

  • Mobile browsers: BetterCampus is designed for desktop browsers and may not work on mobile.

Check for school restrictions

Some schools block browser extensions or restrict which ones can be installed. If you're using a school-managed device or school account:

  • You may see a message that the extension is "blocked by administrator"

  • The extension might install but never activate

  • Your school's IT department may need to allowlist BetterCampus

What to do if your school blocks extensions

Contact your school's IT department and ask if they can allow BetterCampus. You can share the BetterCampus website with them so they can review what the extension does. BetterCampus is used by over 2 million students and is designed specifically to enhance your learning platform without replacing it.

Still not working?

If you've tried all the steps above and BetterCampus still isn't appearing:

  1. Update your browser to the latest version

  2. Restart your browser completely (close all windows and reopen)

  3. Reinstall BetterCampus — remove it from your extensions page and install it fresh from the extension store

  4. Check for conflicts — other extensions for your learning platform might interfere. Try disabling other related extensions temporarily.
