BetterCampus 8.6.1 brings cleaner settings, smarter notification controls, and several improvements to grades and study tools.

Settings reorganized

The settings sidebar is cleaner and easier to navigate:

• Log out and Turn off extension now live under Account

• Themes simplified to a single card showing your current theme

• Old Reminders section removed—due-date reminders are now under Notifications

• Better contrast in the setup area for both light and dark modes

Notifications with more control

Notification preferences now include a frequency setting:

• None — send no prompts

• Once daily — at most one prompt per day

• All — send prompts for everything eligible

Desktop alerts can now be set to Canvas only or All sites.

Planner and study suggestions

New proactive notifications help you stay ahead:

• Planner session suggestions sent 72 hours before a due date

• Study set suggestions sent 48 hours before a due date

Grades moved to its own page

Grades are no longer a popup—they now have a dedicated page with smoother transitions and hover states.

To-do list improvements

• Custom to-do settings are now inline—no more popup

• Added confirmation when closing with unsaved changes

Study improvements

• Quiz answers are now correct—generated options are properly distinct

• Quiz and flashcard generation are 2–4x faster with better quality

BetterCampus 8.6.0 introduces Canvas Wrapped, improves grades flexibility, refines the to-do list experience, and upgrades the notifications center.

Canvas Wrapped

A new end-of-term recap shows your semester at a glance—courses completed, assignments tackled, and highlights from your school year. Share it, save it, or just look back on what you accomplished.

Grades improvements

• What If grades are now functional—clicking no longer crashes the page

• New setting lets you choose whether the grade percentage links to BetterCampus Grades or Canvas Grades (Canvas remains the default)

To-do list refinements

• When BetterCampus To-Do is enabled, the native Canvas to-do list is now hidden—no more seeing both at once

• Completed course rings stay visible in your To-Do List so you can see what you've finished

• Show Rings now applies only to active tasks instead of all courses

• Ring style changes update in real time

• Announcements now appear in your to-do list

• Course colors display correctly even when you have zero tasks for a course

Notifications center

• The beta tab is now called Notifications and is organized by medium (Desktop, Email), category, and type

• Notification rows now show class colors and images

• New class starting soon notification reminds you 10 minutes before class with a quick link to your notes

• Trial started emails now sent automatically when your free trial begins

Files and AI

• AI button is now more visible when accessing files

• AI button placement fixed for modules

UI polish

• Navigator responsiveness improved

• Skeleton loading no longer jumps

• Dashboard Notes widget no longer resizes unexpectedly on refresh

• Card announcement bookmarks now show the count like standard Canvas

BetterCampus 8.5.5 brings a simplified planner sidebar, faster grades and study pages, and fixes for sidebar and theme issues.

Planner sidebar simplified

The planner sidebar is cleaner and easier to use:

• Now shows a fixed week view—no more switching between views

• Inline planning status shows how many items need planning at a glance

• Overdue items are included so nothing gets missed

• Show more control at the bottom for expanding when needed

Desktop reminders

In-browser task reminder notifications are now available for planned tasks and study sessions.

Faster grades and study pages

Grades and study pages now load faster with cached data showing immediately while fresh data loads in the background.

Grades editing improvements

• New Edit Grades button makes it clearer how to modify your grades

• Mass delete and hide actions are now easier to use in What If mode

• You can always restore hidden items if you change your mind

Dashboard widget polish

• Widget styling is now consistent with matching backgrounds, shadows, and corners

• Tooltips on grade icons explain what each item means

• Resize behavior improved for larger widgets

Navigation and sidebar fixes

• Navigator page got a cleaner look with refined icons and themes section

• Duplicate inbox tabs in the sidebar are gone

• Dark mode UI issues fixed—the clear button is now in the right place

• Rebranding popup no longer reappears on every page refresh when you're not signed in

Better support workflows

Behind the scenes, the team can now reply to bug reports more efficiently—meaning faster responses when you report issues.

BetterCampus 8.5.4 fixes theme and appearance issues, improves the upgrade flow, and clarifies reminder notifications.

Theme and appearance fixes

Several theme-related issues are resolved:

• Themes and preferences no longer reset unexpectedly after updates

• Dark mode no longer auto-applies or causes unexpected color shifts

• Sidebar no longer duplicates or overlaps Canvas content

• Theme widget in settings popup is no longer cut off at the bottom

• New accessibility controls for theme contrast—set a minimum contrast level and the editor will warn you when colors fall short

Billing and upgrade flow

• Free users now see upgrade prompts in the login flow based on their account state

• Free theme swaps are now properly enforced—you can't swap themes without using a swap

• Trial conversions are tracked more reliably for better support

Notifications and reminders

Reminders are clearer:

• Timestamps on reminders only show once they're past due—no more confusion between due time and reminder time

• Test and quiz mode notifications confirmed working

• Notification styling improved with better color coding

• Grade bar alignment fixed

Other improvements

• Dashboard widget layout improved for fitting three columns on regular screens

• Unsubscribe behavior fixed—when you unsubscribe, related options turn off as expected

Task reliability

Tasks now stay completed or deleted—no more reappearing after you mark them done:

• Completed tasks no longer resurface as overdue

• Custom tasks no longer duplicate on every dashboard reload

• Personal assignments stay deleted instead of multiplying

Planner improvements

Creating tasks is easier and more reliable:

• Add Task button now opens correctly when clicked

• New Add Task entry point at the bottom of your task list—useful for planning ahead or adding placeholder items

Dashboard and navigation

• Clicking the pencil icon on a dashboard card now opens the correct class instead of an old course view

• Sidebar no longer overlaps Canvas content, buttons, or native navigation

• Generated quiz answers are no longer all identical—each option is now properly distinct

Planner and tasks

Several fixes make the planner and task list work more reliably:

• To-do list now works correctly when your dashboard is set to list view

Grades and GPA

Grades and GPA got attention in this release:

• GPA history now saves correctly

• The What-if grade feature is now properly gated for paid plans—free users won't see it persist unexpectedly in class popups

• A pencil icon now appears next to your target GPA when setting a goal, making it clearer how to edit

Study improvements

• Quiz generation no longer gets stuck at 94%

• Study URLs now update correctly when you create a new study set

• Small improvements to the quiz experience throughout

Notifications and reminders

Reminders are clearer and notification settings have been reorganized:

• Reminder text now shows Due tomorrow, 12:30am (in 3 hrs) instead of separate lines—easier to read at a glance

• Notification defaults and settings have been cleaned up for consistency

• Preferences structure has been reorganized for easier navigation

Tour improvements

Product tours are shorter and more consistent:

• Tour text has been simplified so you can get started faster

• Page tours now have steps in the bottom left and the CTA in the bottom right—matching the main tour layout

Account and signup

• The birthday screen UI has been improved and consolidated with the signup flow

• After paying via Stripe link, your trial now appears immediately—no need to log out and back in

Bug reporting

The Report a bug tool received small fixes for better positioning and clearer error messages.

• Sticky notes are now available as a standalone feature

• Sidebar button displays correctly for users under 13

• The sync icon in tooltips now matches the one used in the to-do list
