If Canvas isn't loading for you or is extremely slow, check if other students at your school are having the same issue. You can also check Canvas's official status page or your school's IT announcements. When Canvas comes back online, BetterCampus will automatically reconnect.
My planner isn't syncing
If your planner or to-do list isn't showing your assignments, deadlines, or tasks, there are a few common causes. This guide will help you figure out what's wrong and get everything back on track.
First, check if you're signed in
BetterCampus needs access to your Canvas account to show your assignments and tasks. If you're not signed in, nothing will sync.
Open Canvas in your browser.
Look for the BetterCampus icon in your browser toolbar.
Click it to open the extension.
If you see a sign-in prompt, follow the steps to log in with your Canvas account.
Once you're signed in, your assignments should start appearing in your planner within a few seconds.
Refresh Canvas to load new data
Sometimes BetterCampus just needs a refresh to pull the latest data from Canvas.
Go to your Canvas dashboard.
Refresh the page (press F5 or Cmd+R / Ctrl+R).
Open the BetterCampus sidebar or Tasks drawer.
Your updated assignments and tasks should appear.
If you just added an assignment in Canvas, it may take up to a minute to appear in BetterCampus.
Check if Calendar Sync requires Pro
Calendar Sync—the feature that sends your Canvas tasks to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook—is a Pro feature. If you're on the Free plan, you won't be able to sync tasks to your external calendar.
Open BetterCampus and go to your account settings.
Check your current plan.
If you see "Free" and you're trying to use Calendar Sync, you'll need to upgrade to Pro.
The Free plan includes a basic to-do list that shows your Canvas tasks, but it doesn't support syncing to external calendars.
Canvas assignments aren't showing up
If your planner is empty or missing assignments:
Make sure you're on the right Canvas account. If your school uses multiple Canvas instances (like a main campus and a separate login for summer courses), you may need to sign in to the correct one.
Check your Canvas planner. BetterCampus pulls tasks from Canvas's built-in planner. If an assignment isn't in your Canvas planner, it won't appear in BetterCampus either.
Look at the date range. BetterCampus shows upcoming tasks for the current week. If an assignment is due further out, it may not appear in the "Upcoming This Week" view.
Still not working?
If you've tried the steps above and your planner still isn't syncing, here are a few more things to check:
Try a different browser. Sometimes browser extensions or settings can interfere. Try opening Canvas in an incognito/private window or a different browser to see if the issue persists.
Disable other Canvas extensions. If you have other Canvas extensions installed, they might conflict with BetterCampus. Try disabling them temporarily.
Check Canvas status. Occasionally, Canvas itself experiences outages. If Canvas is down, BetterCampus won't be able to sync your data.
