Cumulative GPA
Updated 2 months ago
Your school platform only knows about this term. Add your past grades and BetterCampus can show your cumulative GPA — the number that actually goes on applications.
Two ways to add your history
Upload your transcript
Upload your transcript as a PDF and BetterCampus reads your past classes and grades out of it. Faster than typing, and it's the right choice if you have more than a term or two behind you.
Check what comes back before you rely on it. Transcripts are formatted differently at every school, and a misread class will quietly skew your GPA.
Add them yourself
Type in past classes and the grades you got. Slower, but exact — and the only option if you don't have a PDF transcript to hand.
Get your grading scale right first
Past terms are converted using a grading scale too, and older terms sometimes used a different one — a school that changed its cutoffs, or a year where you took weighted classes and this year you don't.
If your cumulative GPA looks off by a few tenths, this is almost always why. See Set your grading scale.
Cumulative vs this term
What it covers | |
|---|---|
This term | The classes you're taking now, pulled from your school platform |
Cumulative | Everything, including the past terms you added |
A strong term moves your cumulative GPA less than you'd expect, and the further into school you are, the less any single term moves it. That's worth knowing before you count on one good semester to fix things.
