Is BetterCampus safe to use?
Yes. BetterCampus is used by over 2 million students and is built specifically to enhance Canvas — not to collect or share your information in ways you'd be uncomfortable with. Here's what you should know.
What BetterCampus can and can't see
BetterCampus is a Chrome extension. It only runs on Canvas pages — it can't see what you're doing on other websites like social media, email, or banking.
Inside Canvas, BetterCampus reads your courses, assignments, and grades to power features like the Planner and Smart Grades Page. It does not read your Canvas password or anything you type into Canvas text fields.
Your data stays private
No tracking outside Canvas — BetterCampus doesn't monitor your browsing history
Data never sold — your information is never sold to advertisers or data brokers
No advertising targeting — BetterCampus doesn't use your data to show you ads
Who built it
BetterCampus was built by students, for students. It started as BetterCanvas and grew into a full student productivity platform through organic word of mouth — not corporate backing. The team is based in New York City.
Not affiliated with Canvas
BetterCampus is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure or Canvas LMS. It works alongside Canvas, not inside Instructure's systems.
For students under 18
You must be at least 13 to create a BetterCampus account. BetterCampus does not sell or share personal information from users under 18. Students under the required age can still use limited features without creating an account — no identifiers like name or email are collected in that mode.
